Show Reviews.
Wednesday May 23, 2007 - Asbury Lanes
So I initially went out to this show because of the River City Rebels.
But overall, it ended up just being a good time, yet again, at Asbury
Lanes. And to be perfectly honest, I didn?t get asked to do a review
until about ¾ of the way through the show, but let?s see what I
remember happening.
The Ratchets
? They?re one of those local bands that I wish was around more,
because I love them. And to quote my mother, their singer has sort of
a Patrick Swayzee-esque quality, just making them interesting to
watch. Their singer has a unique voice ? sort of scratchy and could
be annoying if the music wasn?t overpowering the crowd with awesome.
Nobody seemed that into them and that was depressing to me, but hey?I
thought they were great. Check this band out. Just because I love
them.
River City Rebels ? Come on. Just?come on. Even
though their singer is a tad creepy and might just yell at the crowd
slightly too often, they?re far too fun to avoid dancing to. They
played a pretty solid set, with a good mix of old favorites and new
songs. I would have preferred a few more older jams, though. The crowd
was into them, though, which made it even more fun for everyone.
Worthless United ? In between hysterical on-stage
banter and random sound effects, these guys managed to play some
awesomely catchy songs. It seemed like a lot more people came to life
during this set?or maybe it was because it was later in the night and
everyone was a little more drunk. I don?t ask questions. I just enjoy
the music. I don?t really listen to these guys too frequently, but
while watching them play live, I was severely regretting that
decision. They were fun.
The Draft
? I believe I heard something about these guys being part Hot Water
Music. I could be totally off on that, though, but I think I remember
that being said. Either way, they were pretty good. By this point, the
crowd seemed to be losing interest or getting tired. I felt bad. They
weren?t as up beat as some of the other bands, but they were still
fun to watch. After a while, I was ready for the set to be done,
though. It seemed to last far too long. They seem like a band that
would be more fun to listen to if you knew their songs. I liked them,
but it just got a little boring after a while.
Overall? I?ll give it an A. The crowd was happy to be there and
having fun ? hell, we had a guy apologize to us for pushing. It was
that awesome of a night.
